The Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) has joined forces with the Alliant Insurance Foundation, the Spencer Educational Foundation, and Southern University to establish a new risk management and insurance degree program at Southern University.

In collaboration with the LDI Office of Consumer Advocacy and Diversity and the Spencer Educational Foundation, the Alliant Insurance Foundation has allocated an initial investment of $1.4 million over a three-year period to support the establishment of an accredited School of Insurance degree program within the Southern University System.

“The addition of an accredited insurance degree program at Southern University will expand opportunities for minorities in Louisiana, who are underrepresented in our state’s insurance industry,” said Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon.

Deputy commissioner of the Office of Consumer Advocacy and Diversity Ron Henderson also praised the new initiative.

“Creating more diversity and equality in the insurance industry is part of the Office of Consumer Advocacy and Diversity’s mission, and I’m happy to have played a part in this collaborative effort,” Henderson said.
