Ledger Investing, the growing insurance technology (insurtech) and insurance-linked securities (ILS) focused company, has made a trio of senior business development hires, with each having specific expertise gained in areas of insurance, reinsurance, risk and capital markets.

Ledger Investing has been bringing onboard numerous new hires since the company raised a significant Series B round, through which it secured $75 million in growth capital.

Ledger has been actively hiring across its technology and data science team, as well as some more senior reinsurance or capital markets focused roles.

In recent days, the company has greatly strengthened its business development function, a core piece of the business for expanding its opportunities to source new risks that can be securitized and backed by third-party investor capital.

All three of these new hires are joining Ledger Investing as Directors of Business Development, but each brings something different to the role, in terms of their experience.

First, Thomas Carey, who has a background in capital markets and institutional sales, as well as securities and also some time spent with a fixed income focused tech company that utilises machine learning.

Carey’s experience is likely more attuned to working with potential investors and capital market partners that ledger Investing might transact with and source capital from for its deal-flow.

Next, Jessica Schuler has also joined Ledger Investing. Schuler was most recently Senior Vice President of Global Client Development & Strategy at specialist risk modelling firm Praedicat, Inc.

At Praedicat, Schuler was working with the firm’s clients on casualty catastrophe risk modelling, which is of course very relevant to Ledger Investing as the company often transacts casualty ILS and other forms of non-catastrophe P&C based ILS.

The third new hire is Jared Seaquist, who has a history in insurance underwriting and risk modelling.

Seaquist has been an underwriter at AIG’s Lexington Insurance, with a focus on MGA’s and program business, which is an area of the market very relevant to Ledger Investing, as it sources program business to match with institutional capital.

Seaquist has also spent almost a decade working at risk modeller AIR Worldwide and was most recently Director of Enterprise Sales at insurtech and modelling firm CAPE Analytics.

Earlier this week, Ledger Investing announced its first secondary trade of a casualty insurance-linked securitization (ILS) instrument.
