Munich Re: Blunck to succeed Jeworrek on reinsurance. Golling takes Capital Partners

Munich Re has announced that Thomas Blunck will take over as the management board member in change of reinsurance at the company, as long-standing senior executive Torsten Jeworrek steps down.

The Supervisory Board of Munich Re said that Dr. Thomas Blunck (aged 57) has been appointed as the Chair of the Reinsurance Committee of the Group’s Board of Management with effect from January 1st 2023.

Blunck will succeed Dr. Torsten Jeworrek (61), who is set to step down from the Board of Management of Munich Re on December 31st 2022 at his own request.

“Torsten Jeworrek’s contribution to our company has been extraordinary,” Munich Re CEO Dr. Joachim Wenning said.

Torsten Jeworrek has worked at Munich Re for a total of 32 years and has been a member of the Board of Management for two decades, with responsibility for reinsurance since 2006.

Blunck first joined the Munich Re Board of Management in 2005.

As well as becoming the Chair of the Reinsurance Committee, Blunck will now also chair the Global Underwriting and Risk Committee.

On the Board of Management, Blunck will also take responsibility for Data and Analytics, Internet of Things, Corporate Underwriting, Claims, Accounting, Reinsurance Development, Controlling and Central Reserving for Reinsurance, and Information Technology.

Meanwhile and of relevance to insurance-linked securities (ILS) market participants, structurers and investors, Munich Re also announced that Stefan Golling will take responsibility for Capital Partners on the Board of Management.

Blunck had previously been responsible for Munich Re Capital Partners since 2017.

Munich Re also announced that its Supervisory Board has also appointed Clarisse Kopff (49), with effect from December 1st 2022, and Mari-Lizette Malherbe (38), with effect from January 1st 2023, as new members of the Board of Management.

Clarisse Kopff will head the Europe and Latin America Non-life division, while Mari-Lizette Malherbe will take over responsibility for Life and Health from Thomas Blunck.

“I very much look forward to working closely with Mari-Lizette Malherbe, Clarisse Kopff and Thomas Blunck in their new roles,” said CEO Wenning.
