The best destinations for multi-generational families to visit

March 26, 2021

There’s probably never been a time where so many of us are this desperate to go on holiday to reunite with the family. Whether you’re a beach-loving group or prefer adventure-based activities, here are some of the best destinations for multi-generational families to visit.

Staycation Destinations

Cornwall, England

If you’re thinking of planning a family holiday in the UK then Cornwall has a lot to offer. It is home to hundreds of stunning sandy beaches with over 400 miles of coastline. Cornwall experiences large waves making it a haven for surfers and body boarders alike. For the food lovers Cornwall is well known for its Cornish ice cream, cream tea and of course… Cornish pasties!

Why not visit Lands’ End, the most south-westerly point of the UK and
gaze out across the Celtic sea. Another unique attraction is St Michael’s
Mount, a tidal island managed by the National Trust which is separated from the
mainland by just 500m and only reachable on foot at low tide.

The Highlands, Scotland

From one end of the UK to the opposite. The Scottish Highlands is a staycation every Brit should experience. From the stunning scenery of Glen Coe, to skiing and hiking the mountains of the Cairngorms National Park, there is so much to see and do.

Movie fans can check
out filming locations such as the Glenfinnan Viaduct in Inverness-shire, used
in the Harry Potter franchise for the Hogwarts express scenes. James Bond fans
driving through Glen Etive, may recognise the backdrop from ‘Skyfall’.

The Scottish Highlands are
home to many of the highest mountains in the UK, including Ben Nevis and also
the famous ‘Loch Ness’. Get the children excited with tales of the Loch Ness
monster, and be sure to take a camera to capture some pictures of the glorious landscapes.

City Break Destinations

Barcelona, Spain

For those families looking for a city break holiday in Europe, we think Barcelona offers something for everyone. It is one the most visited European cities and it’s easy to see why. Barcelona is home to both colourful and gothic architecture, a long beachy coastline for sun worshippers and one of most decorated football clubs in the world ‘Barcelona FC’.

We recommend visiting the Sagrada
Familia, a large Roman Catholic basilica which is still under construction
today despite having been started in 1882. For sporty holidaymakers, the Nou
Camp tour is well worth it, which allows you to visit the Barça museum and
various areas of the near hundred thousand capacity football stadium. Who knows,
maybe you’ll even bump into Lionel Messi…

Orlando, Florida, USA

If you’re looking to visit a city as a family beyond Europe then stay
tuned…this one is far from your typical city break! Orlando in Florida is the
perfect destination for thrill seekers and entertainment lovers of all ages. It
is perhaps most famous for the Disney theme parks, but is also home to a huge
array of other popular attractions so if you want to unleash your inner child,
there’s no place like it.

At the Universal Orlando Resort children and adults can see their favourite movies brought to life at the Universal Studios or when visiting the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

If you’re not a fan of rollercoasters and getting soaked then don’t
sweat! Orlando has much more to offer on top of its theme park attractions.
Adults can also enjoy a vibrant arts and culture scene with acclaimed museums,
galleries and performing arts venues.

Beach/Resort Holiday Destinations

Crete, Greece

We all love the Greek islands and Crete is the largest of them all, located at the southern edge of the Aegean Sea. In Crete you can expect a lot of sandy beaches, sun and warm weather making it perfect for a beach or poolside holiday.

A
trip to the island’s popular capital ‘Heraklion’ will give you a chance to
immerse yourself in Greek history with hotspots such as the Heraklion
Archaeological Museum.

Children
and adults can also enjoy a trip to the Aquaworld Aquarium in Hersonissos. This
is an animal sanctuary for rescued or previously injured reptiles and sea life,
where they encourage hands-on interaction with many of the animals.

Barbados

If you’re looking to travel further afield for your beach holiday, then
look no further than Barbados. The Caribbean island country is known for its
tropical beaches, it’s historical capital ‘Bridgetown’, a UNESCO world heritage
site, and claims to be the birthplace of the popular liquor rum.

On a visit to Bridgetown you will find
a number of historical and architecturally interesting buildings which you can
learn about through guided tours from locals.

If you’re feeling adventurous, then we recommend going on a tour of Harrison’s Cave, situated 700ft above sea level and containing unusual formations of stalagmites and stalactites.
