Need advice – Situation for circumventing preexisting condition clause

I am an international student moving to San Francisco for a year starting next week. I have health insurance for the United States through my program.
Three weeks ago, I sustained a foot fracture in my home country. I need to go for follow-up appointments with an orthopedic doctor in the United States to get an X-ray and advice on when I will be able to walk again (bear weight again). I will need to see the doctor at least 1-2 more times.
I spoke to my insurance person and they said that they will not cover me for this injury because it occurred in my home country and is considered a pre-existing condition. I need to figure out a solution before I fly to the United States.
I am not sure what to do. I could lie to the hospital and say that I re-fractured my foot from a fall, but that would be fraud. I am not sure if the hospital would even go along with that.
What other options do I have?
Thank you for your help.
