Getting life insurance for my parents.

I (33m) am looking for advice on getting my mom (62f) and dad (66m) life insurance. I live in Massachusetts with my family, they live in Arkansas. They are broke, living off of social security and disability, and have never paid into any type of life insurance or retirement. I’m at a pretty comfortable place financially, and while this may sound slightly heartless, I don’t want one of them passing and jeopardizing my family’s financial security trying to patch everything with my savings. I would like to start paying into a life insurance policy for each of them, but I have absolutely ZERO understanding of how to get the ball rolling. Looking to get something basic that would cover funeral expenses and leave the other some pocket change. What type of policy should I be looking at? Do I need anything legal to start this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Figured I’d get some ideas here before I go talking to an agent, and get sucked into something that wasn’t beneficial.
