IAG strengthens board with new appointment

“Wendy joins us having recently served five years on the board of Tower Limited, including more recently chairing their Board Risk Committee,” said Tom Pockett, chair of IAG. “Wendy’s appointment continues the strengthening of the IAG board’s insurance and financial services expertise that has occurred over the past couple of years.”

Thorpe has a wealth of experience in the financial services industry, including key leadership roles at AXA, ANZ, and AMP.

She also serves as the chair of Epworth Healthcare and Online Education Services, and as a non-executive director of Heritage & People’s Choice, auDA, and Data Action. Thorpe’s background includes previous directorship roles at Tower Limited, Ausgrid, and AMP Bank.

Recent resignation

Tower Limited announced the resignation of Thorpe as a non-executive director of the Tower Board, effective yesterday. Thorpe, a director since March 2018, cited a change in family circumstances as the reason for her resignation, enabling a three-month stand-down period.

Thorpe’s resignation comes following her appointment to the IAG board. Tower CEO Blair Turnbull, will serve as an interim executive director until a permanent independent director is appointed.

A recruitment process is currently underway for Thorpe’s replacement. Tower Limited thanked Thorpe for her service and wished her well in her future endeavors.
