Sure makes two senior appointments

23 January 2023

Sure Insurance has appointed Jan Wiid as Head of Claims and Christine Bryant as Risk and Compliance Manager.

Brisbane-based Mr Wiid spent five years at Allianz Partners, most recently as Regional GM Insurance Operations, and almost a decade at IAG where he finished as Senior Manager Strategic Planning & Execution. He has also worked in New Zealand, China, Thailand and India.

“His critical role with Sure will see him responsible for optimising the claims function to achieve best practice outcomes for Sure customers, through managing and leading a rapidly growing claims workforce,” the insurer says.

Ms Bryant, who is also located in Brisbane, was most recently Compliance and Operations Manager at Austbrokers Corporate. She also held senior positions at InterRISK Queensland and Regional Insurance Brokers.

Sure MD Bradley Heath says both leaders are recognised insurance industry experts in their fields.

Sure entered regional and north Queensland markets in 2019 and is backed by capacity providers Liberty Mutual and Pacific International Insurance.

It recently became the second insurer to join the Federal Government’s cyclone reinsurance pool, which aims to reduce premium prices in Australia’s disaster-prone north.

“It is in the best interests of our policyholders to join,” Mr Heath told insuranceNEWS.com.au. “It’s a difficult reinsurance market at the moment. We still have to buy reinsurance for things not covered by the pool, but the pool is certainly an advantage in the current environment.

“It’s there for the long term and there is a nil deductible.”

Sure had compound annual revenue growth of 619% in the three years to June and says it delivered an average annual household insurance premium saving of $1480, or 30%, per customer.
